2016 Women at the Wheel - Philadelphia
On January 21, 2016, Citrin Cooperman presented the 1st Annual Driving Your Business: Women at the Wheel program in Philadelphia. The program celebrated four extraordinary women CEOs and executives in the Greater Philadelphia area who are leaders in their field, and provided a venue for women to discuss their careers and the skills and approach they used in achieving their success.

Co-moderated by Citrin Cooperman partners Mary Brislin, CPA, and Colleen S. Vallen, CPA, CFF, the event featured: Catherine M. Cahill, President & CEO, Mann Center for the Performing Arts; JoAnne Epps, Dean, Temple University Beasley School of Law; Julie Coker Graham, President & CEO, Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Suzanne S. Mayes, Chair, Public & Project Finance Practice Group, Cozen O’Connor.

On learning from your mistakes:
“We are all allowed to make mistake, it’s just important that you grow from them. Moments of self-doubt keep you honest and authentic.” – Catherine M. Cahill, President & CEO, Mann Center for the Performing Arts

On becoming a leader:
“There are three lessons I’d like to offer – keep a record of what you do; be aware of the world in which we live; and pick your battles.” – JoAnne Epps, Dean, Temple University Beasley School of Law

On setting your own path:
“Sometimes you just have to carve your own way. Ask for what you want – why you deserve it, why you’ve earned it, and why you should get it.” – Julie Coker Graham, President & CEO, Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau

On positive female role models from a young age:
“Attending an all-girls high school, we were taught we could do anything that we wanted, and it wasn’t visionary in the sense of aspiring to do anything we wanted. It was just a fact – young women were in charge. They led the student council, the yearbook, and the sports teams. It was there I first saw the incredible power of women.” – Suzanne S. Mayes, Chair, Public & Project Finance Practice Group, Cozen O’Connor
