Being a working mother can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Women are often juggling competing responsibilities: work versus home. Finding the right balance between the two can be challenging and overwhelming. Many working moms get so caught up in work and home-life demands that they forget to set aside time for themselves – often to their detriment.
Taking the time to care for oneself allows for the opportunity to recharge, and maintain the energy and mindset to be able to effectively manage work and home-life responsibilities. Everyday demands will always be there; however, making time for self, by taking a short break, will help with the added stressors working moms experience every day of the week.
When feeling overwhelmed, the following simple breathing tips that can help ease stress:
- Sit or stand in a relaxed position.
- Slowly inhale through your nose, counting to five in your head.
- Let the air out from your mouth, counting to eight in your head as it leaves your lungs. Repeat several times.
When you are having “one of those days” – endless meetings, emails that pile up, client deadlines looming, laundry overflowing, children’s homework assignments to be reviewed, after-school activities, etc. -- just remember to BREATHE!
